Help Us Move Forward from the Shutdown
Thanks to you, we sent more than 35,000 messages to Congress urging lawmakers to get their act together and pass a responsible budget—and finally, our lawmakers listened. Last night, the House and Senate agreed to lift the debt ceiling through February and reopen the government through January 15. But we’re not done yet.
Now it's time to call your elected officials and make sure Congress gets back to doing its job of pursuing a responsible appropriations process.
We need your help. We need you to make a call today, and make your voice heard:
Take action: Make a quick phone call to your representative’s office! Call the Capitol Switchboard at 202.224.3121 and ask to be connected to your representative.
When you get someone on the phone in your representative's office, say: “Hi, my name is ____________, and I’m a constituent. I join with AAUW in urging Congress to get back to doing its job of pursuing a responsible appropriations process, one that grows our economy and ends sequestration.
Your call is needed no matter who your representative is. If your representative favors a clean funding bill without sequestration, your call will help reinforce their position and enable them to point to strong constituent support. If your representative voted for the shutdown, you need to hold them accountable and make sure they know that a government shutdown cannot happen again.
Together, let’s turn up the heat: Call 202.224.3121 today, and tell Congress to do its job.
P.S. Don't forget to let us know you called by sending an e-mail to email@example.com.
